Movie Dreamscapes

Hello fellow dreamers!

I've just watched a movie called The Lovely Bones. It is an excellent movie but not for the light of heart. But what impressed me the most was when one of the characters go into Limbo (Area between Heaven and Earth), and it impressed me how much of a dream it is. It has inspired me greatly. If anyone has any other great movies with themes of dreaming please post them!

I think there is an area in the forums for "media" that this thread will prbably be changed to.

I just watched "INK"--excellent, on the same lines as the other side being similar to the dreamtime.

One good foreign film is (has subtitles) is called "Stalker" (which translates to Dream Walker, not like a celebrity stalker)

Also, read "Art of Dreaming" by Carlos Casteneda.

Anybody know about the film, The Science Of Sleep?

I've seen The Science of Sleep - it was quite a long time ago... remember it vaguely. I think it needs a rewatch. I remember it to be very cute, and very creative, as you'd expect from Michel Gondry. Definitely a lighter tone when compared to Eternal Sunshine.

Eternal Sunshine and Vanilla Sky are up there for me, I am not a big film watcher, some films I tend to find a bit too hollow and lifeless.

Is Vanilla Sky as divisive on this thread as on others?

Most of the films I like are a bit dreamyh in some way The Wall and The Graduate are two other films I never grow tired of.

I have seen a ton of these dream related films recently.
Waking Life was great although after half an hour I was thinking, this like some bizarre kind of lecture but it seemed to crystalise as it went on, I can't believe it is the same director who did School of Rock .
Abre Los Ojos was a must watch as I was one of those who really liked Vanilla Sky, this original version gets you down in the plot a bit more, grittier is a good word, there isn't the distance that Hollywood can bring BUT I did find that Vanilla Sky's pop culture references were a real positive. So comparing those films are like comparing a folk song with just an acoustic guitar and maybe harmonica with the cover version played by a full band, electric guitar, drum kit, etc; can't really be compared.
Science of Sleep was more fun, there was less of the brain wrenching stuff but still some of it, it generally left me with a smile on my face rather than a confused grimace.

totally agree with you. Science of sleep was more enjoyable, but didn't waking life dig a lot deeper? Not just into dreaming, but every related spiritual and metaphysical aspects were touched upon. But yes, it was more like a lecture, still a lot of interesting suggestions.

Is 'abre los ojos' the english title 'open your eyes'? It's listed in IMDB and went through the plot summary, says nothing related to dreaming. Didn't see Vanilla sky either. Shall I watch them, if it's just loosely related to dreaming?

It is heavily related to dreaming but to say more would spoil it for you. Watch Open Your Eyes/Abre Los Ojos and Vanilla Sky then decide which you prefer. From speaking to people this whole story splits people like nothing I have known before some love it and some hate it.

Waking Life was mindblowing, it was just a very unusual format (part of it's greatness) but it left me asking questions whilst also admiring the aesthetics of the film, I liked the bit when he bumps into the girl and she says "let's not just be like ants".

But first I'll spend this day on 'Pan's labrynth' and 'labrynth', you know I'm trying to eat out Lena Nemo's list first.

That Pan's Labyrith is freaky, those Spanish are good for an interesting film.

just watched 'abre los ojos' aka 'open your eyes'. Intriguing story line, keeps you on your toes till the very last minute. But honestly it had me confused in the end, it's a twisted tale which will make you ask questions on what really 'reality' could be. Also raise a few questions on whether or not it could be simulated to the extent that you can't see the difference between reality and virtual reality.

So i'd say a must watch for dreamers.

Glad you enjoyed, I will also recommend Jacob's Ladder, after reading about it on another thread. I found it quite creepy though actually although it isn't a horror.
