I am looking for input on this question.

Is it possible that someone recovering from and experiencing withdrawls from marijuana abuse can suffer adverse effects from taking the drug during lucid and non lucid dreams? Is the high that is experienced in those situations equivilant to actually using the drug? i would appreciate any information or opinions that can be offered on the subject.

Thanks

Marijuana withdrawls? Wasnt aware that that was even a real thing. If anything I would think that it would help you out since it would be a way for you to have the drug without actually having the drug. lm not sure how the high would be in the dream though because I think it would be hard for your brain to recreate being high without actually being high. Although I did have a dream once where i ate some mescaline and I started to trip even though I have never tried mescaline before (have eaten mushrooms and acid though). It wasnt like a real trip all that happened was that everything became tinted red and then cycled through all the colors of the rainbow and just kept doing that. Was actually really cool

I don't think there has been any research on this subject, I could imagine that if you were to have a lucid high your risk of relapse would become greater but again, I don't think there has been any research on this.

I was reading something similar a while back. It wasn't any research but merely forum discussion.

Some people said that marijuana and certain drugs actually suppresses some of the REM sleep so you are less likely to experience lucid and normal dreams. Also when you are "high" it's hard to fall asleep but when the drug effect wears off it sort of knocks you out - and you don't remember much of the dreams anyway.

I also heard an interesting thing about normal smokers (not marijuana). When smokers stop smoking they reported to have very vivid dreams in the following days - and when they started smoking again dreams were back to normal.

I don't smoke myself but if someone does they could try and quit for a week or so, and report if they noticed any changes in their dreams.

EDIT: I read the topic to quickly and misunderstood the whole thing. Didn't knew you were talking about taking drugs while in the dream. Rolling Eyes

I've smoke for four years and recently tried to quit. Went a week and also joined this site and focused on dreaming to a greater extent.

i did find that I had more vivid dreams then usual (or my recall was just better) whether this is an effect of quitting ciggarettes or just a more focused mind I cannot tell you. Just thought id add that in.

EDIT: Forgot to say when i took smoking back up my recall declined!!

Same, I've taken a break from cigarettes and my dream recall has improved.

I will reply again once I start again.

Well im not one to sit and prove that you can get high while dreaming,
like if you smoked some in the dream if you'd feel high or not.
But i can say that it doesnt matter if you just smoked or if it's wearing off,
marijuana doesnt keep you up and it definitely doesnt make it any harder to go to sleep.
I do believe it effects recall and the clarity of dreams.
And another thing, there is a such thing as withdrawl from smokin weed.
some of the symptoms i've experienced are intense headaches, somewhat relapses where everything just so damn funny for no reason...but it's nothing compared to the withdrawal of harder drugs i'd imagine, like
Cocaine or Heroine.
Someone needs to see whats up.

Marijuana is addicting, but only emotionally: it's all in your head. Technically, it's possible if you can really tap into your subconcious, I don't know how you would do that though, to sate or get rid of your addiction. this also means, if the lucid activity of smoking it provides a vivid enough high, it could make your addiction worse.

I've been a heavy smoker half my life then I quit 6 weeks ago. Evidently, even tho my concious mind does not want to smoke, I find myself smoking in my dreams.
I try to recognize this as an anomally and gain lucidity while dreaming. It worked once so far. I was with a bunch of friends and someone brought in weed. I beleive it was my brain easing my way or tricking me into smoking. I did not smoke since I was terrified of going back to smoking- lucidity happens-but second hand smoking got me anyway. I WAS high. Kept laughing and felt my brain expand. I also felt incredibly light and easy. I do beleive you can get high while lucid no problem. I experienced no bad effects whatsoever.
Another time I saw myself smoking and altho I had perfect recall it was not a lucid dream. I know because I felt nothing. No burning in my throat, no dizziness after weeks of no smoking, nothing out of the ordinary. It was as if I never stopped smoking. When I woke up I felt the same repulsion towards cigarettes.
Hope that helps.
On the question about recall becoming better after quitting smoking I say definately. Mine went from couple dreams a month to couple dreams a week.

Smoking kills your brain.

i'm actually subscribed to someone on youtube who is really into lucid dreaming and used to do drugs. He says he quit and would sometimes do drugs in his lucid dreams so that he wouldn't feel the need to do them again in waking life.

Lucid dreaming is so much fun, why do you need drugs in your dreams?

You could smoke some weed and then fly around or watch some planets explode from out of space ^^
if it is possible to get high in a dream without actually loosing your lucidity you can have a LOT more fun Very Happy
but i think you have to be really experienced to do crazy stuff like that XD

You don't need to get high, you're dreaming, just have fun like you would when you are high.
