Would the above comic be feasible? Can you move your fingers while dreaming? |

Wait a minute, is this comic saying that if we move our fingers before we start dreaming, we can type in our dreams and the message would be transferred to real world computers?
No. Way. Haha. Won't happen.
I wish. ;P _________________ Gotta love those L[S]Ds |

Well, the finger moving is just made up. But do people move in real life during dreams? Could it be possible to communicate with the waking world?
I'm totally a n00b to this (I've only had one slightly lucid dream, it was a long time ago), so this is probably really stupid, but I'm just wondering. |

Ha, yes but trying spicy chicken is more feasible than communicating with the real world.Im pretty sure you'd taste it since you know how spicy foods taste like, you'd probably bring into your LDs as well. It is quite a thought about communicating with reality. Sounds kewl. Sounds like a great book, movie etc. Not sure if it really happens. If it DOES happen, that person must be a master at lucid dreaming! ;D _________________ Gotta love those L[S]Ds |

You shouldn't be able to move much when you are sleeping. With some exceptions.. sleepwalkers for example, have a sleep disorder.
Perhaps, if you sleepwalk frequently and in accuracy (like the ones who make a meal while they are sleeping) then perhaps it would be possible. But then again, i've not heard of a lucid sleepwalker before :p
I'm also pretty sure that as a normal healthy person, you would wake up if you move your fingers to type. You would feel your real body and get direct external impulses in your dream which in most cases wake you up.
As far as i know the only way of communicating are either talking in your sleep (which doesn't make much sense, but its some sort of communication i guess) or through REM (which is one-sided communication). |

| It wouldn't be likely to move your real body while you are sleeping because when you sleep your brain "paralyzes" the many muscles of your body so when you move in your dream you don't move in real life. Except for things like sleepwalking i don't know how that works. |

It remembers me that once I wrote something on a paper and left it on my desk in a dream so I could read it after I wake up. It was something about a christmas tree or whatever, anyway didn't get it how dumb I was until woke up. |

| La Berge and his team did a whole bunch of experiments involving physical signaling while subjects where in rem dream state. Speaking for myself, I talk in my sleep all the time, I wake up several times with physical actions such as clenched fists or limbs in a position that mimics those in my dream. And yes, there are those sleep walkers… To answer your question, it’s definitely possible for the body to undergo physical actions during rem sleep that match to some extent what is going on in the dream state, my only question is to what extent you could control fine motor skills. My guess is probably not enough to type, but who knows given time and effort? |

Eyes can move while dreaming, the body can only twitch unless the mechanisms for sleep paralysis are altered.
Sleepwalking does not occur during our vivid, REM dreams, but instead in the later stages of NREM, which is deeper, and contains garbled thoughts and sometimes imagery. |

F1RST P0ST!!
I so posted that from a dream.
Anyhoo, xkcd has lots to say about dreaming.
http://xkcd.com/430/
http://xkcd.com/390/
http://xkcd.com/240/
http://xkcd.com/429/
http://xkcd.com/203/
That last one is my favorite.
Anyway, I think it's an awesome idea, but I'm assuming that in order to do it, you'd have to be lucid, and you'd actually have to be typing in the dream, right? Don't your eye motions mimic those of the dream? So you wouldn't just type what you feel. I'm no expert, though. |

It doesn't sound possible. It's like sleepwalking while having a lucid dream. _________________ This is a signature. |

I know this thread hasn't been added to for a while now, but I wanted to add a brief comment. I had a dream once (not lucid) in which I was being strangled with pink fabric by the evil proprietor of a fabric shop. The shop looked somewhat like my room and when I awoke, I realized that my eyes had been open the whole time, and that I was thoroughly tangled in my pink comforter.
If, as it seems from this dream, sensory information from outside the dream world can become motor information inside the dream world, why could it not go the other way as well? Perhaps sensory information from inside the dream world could be translated into motor information outside... Plenty of things that originally seem impossible can be acheived with practice... (such as lucid dreaming itself, which I have yet to experience).
ps- I love xkcd! |

I can tell you as a used to be sleepwalker that you have no control of your muscles. Your subconscious mind wakes you up and makes you do routine things, like go to the bathroom, or eat a snack. This happens while you are having your dream, so you don't remember any of it. I sleep on the top of a futon bunk bed. I will wake u on the bottom every once in a while. |
