Hey guys, something I thought up for 2012!
I call it 'the Oneironaut Challenge'. The basic principle is this:
Journal 200 dreams, where at least 20 are lucid. If you're journalling on the site, this will effectively give you the Oneironaut rank on the forums, so that's where the name comes from.
Of course, it wouldn't be much of a challenge if you had all the time in the world, so you need a timeframe. Not everyone is the same, though and some have a higher skill level then others. Here's how you determine your timeframe.
Pick a frequency of lucid dreams that seems attainable and work backwards from there.
For example, I might think I can attain a frequency of 1 LD per week. Since I need to journal 20 lucid dreams, the deadline would be in 20 weeks.
Or, I might think I can attain a frequency of 1 LD per two weeks. Then the deadline would be in 40 weeks.
When estimating your lucid dream frequency, you'll probably either overestimate or underestimate. This isn't much of a problem, just adjust your goal accordingly. Make sure you're not pushing it back indefinitely, though.
For those of you who want to keep track of your dreams with the Dream Journal function of the site, you'll need to clear it for your progress to show on the forums next to your avatar. Visit this link to download your dreams in a .zip format. You can save this package on your computer and clear your DJ. That way you'll still have them. I don't think there's an upload function (yet).
I'll be doing the challenge as well (it's been way too long since I actually did any proper training and had goals and such), in a timeframe of 20 weeks. Wish me luck. _________________ Quare? Quod vita mea non tua est. |

I'm totally doing this! I've been so lazy with my dreaming and journaling Like today I had a cool dream where I was in boarding school but I didn't journal it so now I remember nothing!
My dream schedule got messed up over the summer when I stayed up like every night and slept all day.. Or something.
EEee, I'm gonna have goals and everything, it'll be like learning the magic of lds all over again
20 weeks here we go... _________________ And also I lost my clothes. |

This is an idea I can get behind. Haven't done hardcore LD practice since '08, so I feel like making another push is a little overdue. Not that I don't have my little excuses of course (busy with college/work/family/friends/hobbies...we all know how that is). Deadlines have always been good for me, along with a little friendly competition, and I've been thinking of a lot of interesting things to try in Lucidity lately. This couldn't have come at a better time.
Despite being out of practice, a decade of forming good habits has its perks. I consistently record at least one dream per night. Lucid dreams are another story, but based on dry spells past I'm going to aim somewhere in the 28 - 29 week range (one LD every ten days or so). Also, considering how little I use the Lucidipedia DJ I'll probably go ahead and clear it as you suggested, TLS. Pretty sure nobody will miss those dreams and it will make for a convenient way to track progress.
Good luck to everyone involved, and hopefully it'll be a learning experience for us all. |

Yeah, I'm clearing my journal as we speak.
68 dreams from the past year or so, by hand, as well as the long list of DC's build up in the meantime. Man, I really should've journalled more. _________________ Quare? Quod vita mea non tua est. |

That list of dream characters caught me off guard, I hadn't realized the sheer volume until I went back today and started deleting every entry.
I will say this for the Lucidipedia DJ, it made me think about things I hadn't before. Until now I'd only paid attention to recurring DCs or those who were prominent figures in a dream (mostly because of time I guess, it's faster to type every single character than write them by hand in a binder and just plain awkward to record on dictation).
I'd have been using it more often, but my internet connection is a little sketchy. Normally I'm not in the mood to go out of my way just to check emails and such, but there are a few things going on this coming year that'll require some creativity from me when it comes to getting online.
Like I said, this couldn't have come at a better time.
Speaking of awkward transitions, what kind of goals are you working toward lucidity-wise, (aside from hitting that 20/200 mark) if you don't mind me asking?
(consider this an open question to anyone who wants to answer, more than just the three of us have hit that "Let's do this!" button) |

Well, first I want to attain a reasonable level of dream control. Then I'd mainly be using my dreams for practice/problem solving. I'm a Rubik's cube enthusiast and I think lucid dreams could provide me with some insights in the cube. Also, checking stuff out, verifying things I've read, that kind of stuff.
Even though there's always an opportunity for a little bit of wish fullfilment... _________________ Quare? Quod vita mea non tua est. |

Sounds like a solid plan, you even have a rough idea of the order in which you'd like to see all this done.
I'm going to be focusing on dream characters myself. The thing that started me actively trying to become lucid after my first spontaneous LD was reading Jung for the first time and getting interested in Shadow Complexes. As for wish fulfillment, Freud was a little crazy but he wasn't an idiot. If presented the chance, I'll gladly get lost in a tricked-out fantasy experience just like any dreamer.
It's about time for me to get to sleep in this timezone, so I'm off to make my first attempt at Lucidity for 2012. Let's make it an excellent year for dreaming. |

Ah, that was around the same time I was heading to bed as well, even though it was 03:00 for me. I just woke up from a restful night of sleep.
Now, to dig up that notepad... _________________ Quare? Quod vita mea non tua est. |

over the last half year or so i had pretty much stopped logging dreams and trying to LD at all, so much stuff going on... which is kind of stupid cos looking back i probably could have managed to keep going
im in, and right now im going to give myself somewhere about 30 weeks, being optimistic, hope i pick it up again fast.
one question. can i delete my entire old dream journal at once? or do i need to delete each individual dream 1 by 1?? |

As far as I know, you can only delete the entries one-by-one. _________________ Quare? Quod vita mea non tua est. |

I'm totally interested in this. Because i'm down these days. Each morning in the past week i knew i had something of sort of lucid, but barely recollected any of that. I badly want to get back into thick of things.
But TLS, why is it necessary to delete old dreams from the journal? Can't we declare the present status and start working towards the dead line and targets. That way seems easy to me. I have some where around 300, and can't think of deleting them one by one. Unless there is an easy way. |

Yeah, sure, you can do that. There are no set rules. The idea was more that your rank on the site upgrades along with your journalling, so we can all see how you're doing.
I just need to journal what I recalled this morning and I'll have 10 dreams journalled for this week! It started of well, with a lot of dream recall on tuesday and wednesday, but then I didn't recall anything on thursday and friday, but it's all good now. No lucid's though, although I haven't been consciously trying to induce them. _________________ Quare? Quod vita mea non tua est. |

So let me get this straight...To be in the "ranking" system, do the dreams have to be public? I don't know how comfortable I am about sharing all of the content, but am doing quite well and want to still challenge myself. I have entered at least 4 or 5 lucid dreams already in January, but did not want to share the content.
I wish there was a way to possibly share some of the techniques, or stats, and have the entries count for the ranking system, but hide the content if we desired...the way we can with the "notes".
Just a suggestion. _________________ I'm goin' in... |

Yeah, to be in the rankings you have to make your dreams public.
For dreams, you can use the [private]-tag to hide content from the public. You use it like this:
| Code: |
[private]This is hidden.[/private]
*rest of the dream*
|
On another note, I managed to get lucid last night. It wasn't a good lucid dream and the way I went about it was weird (I WILD'ed from another dream), but an LD is an LD. _________________ Quare? Quod vita mea non tua est. |

Hell yeah, I'm in! This sounds like an awesome idea. As said in your other thread, I'll need some time off to restate my goals etc.. but I'll probably give myself a timeframe of 30 weeks and start mid-February. Looking forward to it. |
