|
|
First off, I am new to these forums as well as lucid dreaming so I apologize if this is in the wrong section or is common knowledge.
When I wake up in the morning I can recall segments of my dreams and I piece them together when I am writing in my dream journal but sometimes it seems as if there are pieces that do not fit in the story. For example, one minute I am somewhere doing something and the next I am doing a completely different task in a different location. Is this because I forgot parts in-between?
My real question is How do I know if I have had more than one dream throughout the night without waking up and how do I decipher between each dream? Will I forget the previous one or should I still remember remnants of each dream I had.
Thank you. |

Simple answer: you don't!
You remember fragments of the dream and put them together. You always try to create a story that makes sense. But sometimes, like you described, the gap is too big. I usually write down 'dream shift' between the two descriptions, although I also could have waken up and not remember it!
They say one has about five dreams each night, but three is my record. Big chance my dream shifts are in fact separate dreams and the second dream builds on the previous dream.

I usually recall the dream from the very beginning. No piecing has to be done. _________________ "Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."-Edgar A. Poe |

Well like Marloes said, you recall around 5 dreams a night. So how do you differentiate between each of the five dreams when you are recalling them? How do you know that a dream has started or ended when you recall it? |

For me, its like a video clip of the dream runs through my mind. And as for the whole five dreams business, they tend to run together. Instead of one dream stopping and another dream starting, it is as if the dream just "shifts" into another one. Almost as if someone in a theater chaged film reels. _________________ "Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."-Edgar A. Poe |

I've wondered about this too. My dreams tend to be very random because my dreamself gets distracted very easily and causes the whole storyline/setting to change. If my dream recall isn't very good, I'll remember lots of fragments that don't seem to fit together, it's as if I've had like 10 different dreams in one night. But! I've noticed that when my dream recall gets better, I can also remember the transitions. This can be quite interesting. For example, I once dreamt I was a penguin sliding on ice, after a while the ice started changing into minecraft ice and then the storyline changed to being about Minecraft. Or other example: someone is giving a presentation using a model of an island. I then "zoom" in and end up on the island itself.
I believe these transitions are the first to be forgotten; I usually only remember them when my dream recall is exceptionally good (like when I calmly wake up right after a dream). However, I'm usually still able to tell what fragments go together. Just a feeling I suppose :) _________________ ♥ Toms ♥ |

| I have that weird thing that every time I wake up, even if I ask myself Am I dreaming 5-6 seconds later, I just cannot recall dreams...usually when I recall them, I do it 10-20 minutes later... |
