Ever since I started practicing lucid dreaming, I've had many dreams in which dream characters actually told me I'm dreaming. In fact, my very first lucid dream was thanks to a DC.

Anyway, last night I've had probably the most blatant dream sign ever: I dreamed that I was watching a commercial on YouTube. The product that was being advertised was deeply disturbing (it involved selling human body parts as new, healthy snacks). I felt sick watching it, yet I had to laugh because of the ridiculousness of it. Then I read the comments on the video. Most of them were about how disgusting it is, but one of them really stood out; I vividly remember it said:

"This is the dream revealing itself to you; wake up!"

I don't remember what happened after that, but I doubt it triggered lucidity. When I woke up, I was amazed at the memory of reading that sentence.

Any of you have similar experiences? Dream characters, or the dream itself, telling you you're in a dream? Has this been happening more and more as you progress as a lucid dreamer? Just curious to know Smile

But, my dream character never told me that I am dreaming. I haven’t experienced anything like that.

I had a dream about a month ago where a guy stared me directly in the face and told me that the dream world was a a place full of infinite possiblities and mystery.

I thought to myself, "I'll have to remember that the next time I'm in a dream"

Shocked

I woke up shortly after that convo and could not believe how blatant the help was, but how stuck in the dream mentality I was.

I did have a handful of dream characters hand me a bunch of lucid dreaming cds and books when I told them I was dreaming. They all thought it was pretty cool, and knew I was dreaming before I told them. Very Happy

I wish if DCs actually told me in every dream. That'd be so convenient?! Smile No never had such experience, but recently i have dreams in which i'm kind of swimming through air. This is at some part of the dream, and while doing this i'll come to know i could perform such a thing only in a dream. And, yes that's how i get lucid these days.

My very first lucid dream. I gained awareness after I asked a nearby DC, who had taken the form of my biology teacher, whether or not I was dreaming. He told me 'yes', and I took control.

But despite that, I have also had DC's lie to me and tell me that I wasn't dreaming.

Once a dream character walked up to me and yelled.in my face that I was dreaming. Unfortunately this was from before I knew about the simple fact that I could control my dreams.

Something like this happened to me once.

I was dreaming that I was hanging out with a friend when he asked what I thought was "am I dreaming?". This confused me and I asked him why he thought he was dreaming. He let out a frustrated sigh and said "No! Are YOU dreaming?". I stopped to think about it for a minute, and realized that I was in fact dreaming.

It still makes me smile to think of what a convenient reality check it was.

Only once, and it was because I made him say it--I was in conversation and realize I was dreaming while he was speaking. He finished his sentence, "...but that's probably irrelevant because you're in a DREAM!" And we flew off into the sunset.

At first I thought it was the unconscious trying to hint to me that you're dreaming. But I think its probably the logical part of your own consciousness that is not usually present while dreaming actually coming in to point these things out to us as a precurser to a possible LD.

It's fantastic when things like this occur. It's almost as if the dream is giving you training wheels, getting you started with a little help. I think that it's really sort of a dreamsign within itself. Although you didn't think to gain lucidity through doing a reality-check, some part of your mind obviously had the whole reality/dream awareness thing downpat and simply announced it. It's all down to the random nature of the dream. Generally, I don't gain lucidity through reality checks or external input such as DCs. For me it's usually just that one second I'm dreaming and the next thing I know, I'm lucid! I'm not aware of the exact moment that I gain lucidity, but I never have any doubts or do any checks. Suddenly I just know.
Occasionally I've had the dream mention dreaming and not been aware of it. Just like the 'Youtube comment' example previously given, the dream gives it to you straight. "Are you dreaming?" it seems to be asking. Oh the shame when you wake up knowing that the dream asked it to your face and you naively reply "no". I have wasted a few LD opportunities like that, simply ignoring obvious hints within the dream. Be thankful that your DCs are so helpful.
