I have had two dreams in the past two months that have come true in an indirect way. Indirect meaning the content is accurate, not the location.
I once read in a book called " journeys out of the body" by Robert Monroe, that most often times you will dream of something and that something sticks in your mind. When that something happens in real life you may notice that the location does not match the dream because the mind is doing its best to interpret an event that has yet to happen.

These past two dreams have led me to fear some of the dreams that I've had that I pray do not come true.

Can anyone help me understand how to sharpen this tool of premonition that I have somehow developed? I know I'm not the only one out here that has had this happen. Please respond with any viable input.

( if you care to read the dreams before making any suggestions read them in my dream journal.)

. If you have a thought that relates to a dream and the dream is important to you, you create a link between the two fragments, thus bringing the dream in the conscious mind. Vital for this is that you have resolved to recall your dreams.

Hm, there are multiple interpretations possible. Here are some I can think of right now:

1) It's just your mind detecting patterns in random noise, we're very good at that. So say you dream about A,C,E',G and X and then event "E" happens, the mind makes the link with dream E', which resembles event E, and voila! So-called "precognitive dreams". Of course, that's assuming dream E' doesn't somehow stick out of the other dreams (no feeling of precognitive quality when waking up). If you do have the feeling that it somehow predicts the future and then it actually does happen, that might be interesting to note down somewhere Smile

2) Dr. Tom Campbell's explanation from "My Big TOE":

He makes two assumptions for his theory: 1) consciousness exists and 2) the process of evolution exists. Basically, in his TOE (theory of everything), consciousness is a digital information system that is in a continual evolution towards decreasing entropy. "Reality" as we experience it here, is just one of the many virtual realities that consciousness has "created" (evolved) in order to evolve itself. So it's like a game and every one of us has an "avatar", which is the person we think we are.

The individuated unit of consciousness ("IUOC") we actually are (beyond the avatar) has a lot more information. Campbell describes we could all have 3 databases: 1) actualized data (what happened in the past), 2) unactualized data (a simulation of what could have happened and 3) data of probable future events.

The latter database consists just of projections of future events, based on our current and past experience. This is partly already what we know the mind does. We can quite accurately predict what's going to happen in the next few minutes for example. Now, since the constraints of physical matter reality ("PMR") only apply to our avatars and since everything is connected to everything else, the idea is that our IUOC has access to a lot more information. So that's why precognitive dreams could be real.

Now the keyword in the "database of probable future events" is "probable". Some events are likely to occur ("I will likely go to bed in 20 minutes") and some very unlikely ("a plane will crash into my house in 20 minutes"... God I hope that thought entered my mind randomly Razz). The actual result depends on our actions, i.e. "free will". There is no fixed future, since there is no deterministic universe. Determinism has been proven wrong decades ago, since the dawn of quantum physics.

If these theories of this Campbell guy sound strange to you, good! That's normal Razz I'd recommend reading the full 800+ (free) pages of his book or at least checking out his YouTube videos, if ideas about reality and consciousness is what interests you (and its practical value...).

3) Interpretation from Tibetan dream yoga: very similar to Campbell's ideas. According to this philosophy, there are two main categories of dreams: 1) dreams that happen because of karmic traces and 2) those that happen from clarity of mind. The former are caused by events occurred in our youth, in our immediate past or previous lives. Dreams from clarity of mind become more frequent through meditation and the practice of natural light. Those dreams are either memories of previous lives, "transmissions" from gurus/masters/..., or precognitive dreams.

Anyway... again, this was just at the top of my head. If anyone has any other explanations, corrections, additions, ... please share. This is an interesting topic for a blogpost Smile

Now, my opinion: I don't really have an outspoken opinion on this, because I don't have enough data yet to make a statement Razz I did have some dreams myself that appeared to have been extraordinary precognitive. For example, the week before I traveled to Madrid and Bern last month, I had a series of dreams about events that were ridiculously similar to what actually happened, only, the appearance of the people and the setting were different (more familiar back then). Like you say, maybe the mind can only work with what it already has.

Hi ,
I have been in this situation afew years ago yet since then I have learnt to harness the power,

Now I have had hundreds of written and verified precognitive dreams .

In One I saw a train derailing (that same week my brother missed a train that derailed and 50 people died)

In another I saw a burglary,
I was dreaming in the body of the thief and could feel the fear and adrenaline,(3 Lunar months exactly my friends house was burgled.I had seen specific details relating to the crime such as the presence of builders at the next door house)

In another(afternoon nap) I saw someone on Tv.
That evening we(the person in question and I) were watching TV together and we were both surprised at their first TV appearance.

In another someones phone had been stolen(within seven days that same person had been pickpocketed of their phone)

Now its common place for me to see some event of the next day in a dream.
Such as a meeting with an unexpected person or an irregular place or new location.
Whether fully lucid or partially or in a non lucid dream.

Sceptics will always be sceptics yet I think a Solid faith in the ability will strenthen It.

When something happens that youve dreampt pay a lot of attention too it.
It is like a dream sign yet within the waking state and noticing this more and more will overlap into recognizing more dream signs in the dreaming state.
And will also result in dreaming that youve dreampt of the dream within a dream.

To acheive targeted premonitions on specific things I suggest focusing on Questions in the Hynogogic state and answers in hynopompic state.
This isn't always possible.

We dont always have the ability of choosing what we see of the future even if totally lucid. Some events are definite and others are possibilities.

Some Premonitions are a self deffence mechanism of survival..or Protection of loved ones,,

For not manifesting bad premonitions I suggest:

Paying as little attention to them as posible.
Telling noone about them specifically.
This way the relity is weakoned.(Sufi methodology)
Meditate/Pray and try to redream them lucidly and change events to a better outcome.

As for destiny and free will ..
Both exist simultaneously.
Free will within the limit of what we and others have destined for ourselves through previous actions.

This an example of certain futures.

The motion of all planets and stars is fixed. They dont variate from their orbits.
One year from now I can know exactly where every planet will be at this time exactly.

Hope this helps

I am skeptical and open to the idea at the same time--I've had dreams that I swear predicted the future, and very very often these predictive dreams bring some sort of element of focus that I for reasons that don't really matter go on to worry about/spend excessive time contemplating in reall life. It's as if residue from my consciousness somehow traveled back to the dream I was having. Of course, there's the possibility that this is all bullshit. What I think: no need to hone it. If these residues exist, the way to experience more of it is to open up to it spiritually, as in Lence's description of the Tibetan Dream Yoga practice. Chances are you would just become preoccupied with useless symbols. I do think that we can all learn a lot about dreams and reality by considering that the line between them is perhaps even more blurred than it appears.
