Hello I'm Moonchild and I'm new here.

I'm very interested in lucid dreaming, but I am also very skeptical in nature. So at the moment I am in the phase of figuring out if this is real or just a scam.

No offense meant. I keep an open mind regarding everything, including such topics as hypnosis, cryogenics and religion. However, without empiric evidence and rational proof I simply can't allow myself to believe in anything.

But like I said I keep an open mind and I'm here to learn. This site seems to be very professionally kept and the resources available are simply incredible. I'm very impressed. Thank you.

Bye for now,

MC

I was a little apprehensive at first as well. The first night I started my dream journal I had multiple false awakenings about me writing dreams in it. Upon awakening for real I went to read all of the stuff I wrote down and there wasn't a damn thing in it. I also started to have out of body experiences once my dream recall was decent. I was like wtf! It took my 2-3 months of failing to try to realize I was dreaming in a dream which just doesn't happen for me yet. I am still at it, boosting dream recall, doing reality checks, and the whole nine yards. Finally I decided to try and do the WILD technique and had my first lucid dream after a couple attempts at WILD. I was blow away to say the least. Moral of the story is it is the real deal, you just got to keep at it, want it, and figure out what works for you. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum. You'll fit in nicely; most people here have the "open minded, but skeptical" mindset I think Smile

Lucid dreaming is very real beyond any doubt. Like is shown in the research papers of LaBerge: you can prove it by hooking up an EEG to the dreamer and asking him to send specific eye signals when lucid. But don't take their word for it, find out for yourself!

Hey Rik, thank you for the article. And thank you all for the nice welcome.

I had heard of Dr LaBerge and seen some of his lectures and interviews on YouTube. It sounds convincing, but I'll have to find out for myself I guess.

I have some questions, but I'll post them in their own indvidual threads.

Thanks again,

MC

It's easy to think of lucid dreaming as some kind of weird, esoteric scam without further research or experience. Being a rationalist/skeptic myself I understand where you're coming from.
But lucid dreaming has far more grounding in science than indefinite spiritual heebie-jeebie. Look it up and you will find many scientific articles on the subject- what's so hard to believe about realizing that you're dreaming? Most people experience this to some degree occasionally, such as childhood nightmares where you you scream "Wake me up!" when in a frightening situation. Scientists such as Stephen LaBerge have published many books and research papers on the subject, there are research labs run by the Lucidity Institute with top-of-the-range scientific equipment. Research the science behind it.
And further: try it out. If you apply yourself to dream recognition you should be able to have a lucid dream quite quickly- I started as a skeptic but had my first lucid dream on the third night. That will be it's own indisputable proof.
