I know most of young guys and girls play frequently video games. Well, I do too, don't worry.

What this topic is about is generally on the influence of our daytime experiences on dreams, and particularly, the influence of things like watching TV or playing video games.

This because, the last two evenings, I played some games in the evening because I'm bored to be in my present location, finding no more energy to do more consistent stuff...

So I played two games, very classic 2D games: a fighting game where your character brings down lots of adversaries in a scrolling landscape, and a kind of pinball-like game were you shoot bouncing balls towards targets... Plus I watched a movie before going to sleep...

I must say, the effect on my dreams was catastrophic. I dreamed of playing or living a similar video game. I had these kind of crazy dreams where I'm bilocated, switching points of views between being the player and being the character in a very strange way (2D ????) I cannot explain. I hate this! I also dreamed of the bouncing balls which was blended with a movie opening titles... I feel like I have parasited my dreams again! Laughing

I wish I could contaminate more easily my dreams with better ideas, but it's amazing how fast this video/image perception stuff has managed its mess!

Well I should be glad that I did not embody the bouncing ball! Very Happy

What about you? How much (and how fast) does daytime activities bleed in the dreamworld? Do you control them? And What about the specific effect of video games (which are different from just watching tv or a movie because of the interaction)?

Well dreamtime is daytime! Mess with one, you mess the other!

As a hardcore gamer I know exactly what your talking about except my experiences have always been much smoother. I actually become lucid in one. It was an RTS based on Halo, i was holding a bazooka and suddenly thought "Hey I'm Dreaming", but then I see a large gunship and then shoot down. Just decided to let go of lucidity after that.

I dreamed that I was playing a Metal Slug game once (3D not 2D). although I thought I was the character and I felt adrenaline when I fell and all that.

I've started watching the Sopranos with lunch every day, and since then have dreamt about it almost every night.

I used to play video games, not at all anymore; but those old games still pop up in my dreams regularly after many years.

I think it may be because you're so focused while you're playing, and games are by nature the kind that work well in dreams. They have similarities, in both you're walking around freely in a virtual world, and are very clearly responsible for what you do. Plus, both are fun.

Wow, last night I had a non lucid episode where the DCs around me were blocky like 3D-computer-generated characters from games that would have been 10 years old at least...

I dreamt about a couple of games, but I wonder how you could become lucid in one, because weird things happen while gaming is natural. I've dream about NCIS when I watched season one and two in less than two weeks.

And DreamEater, Halo Wars is an RTS, isn't it? Or was it before that?
