Ever since I joined the lucid dreaming community, my parents have thought I was crazy. When I tried to strike up a convo today about how amazing "dream guides" were, my mom just said that it was too unrealistic. My dad asked me if I knew who was making these things, and a bunch of questions that scream, "ARE YOU MAD??"

Should I just cut the conversations with them about it completely? Because there is a chance that they might think lucid dreaming is some sort of devil worship sooner or later and take my laptop away -.- what do I do? Sad

Are they overly religious?

Make clear that lucid dreaming is a scientifically recognized phenomenon and that it's not harmful in any way. Save the dreamguide and stuff like that for later.
If they still aren't okay with it, stop talking about it and just do your thing in a less open manner.

Explain to them how it's been proven (the eye movements). If they are still unwilling - like my sister, who I think would find this freaking awesome - just stop trying. Do you tell them what positions you sleep every night, when you wake up, what your dreams are? Probably not, so this doesn't need to be shared either. It isn't like they'll be all "YOU ARE DOING A WBTB TECHNIQUE!". It's your sleep schedule, it's really easy to do without involving your family/living companions at all.

I don't talk about it with friends or family.
They just find it strange.
I introduced it to one friend though, and she's into it now. So that's pretty cool.

I have heard about people thinking that lucid dreaming is weird or evil, but I have told alot of people that I can have lucid dreams, some of them are devout Christians, and some are atheists, but only a few people have thought it was weird. One of those people was my teacher

I've been in the exact same seat. I tried having a conversation with my parents about lucid dreaming and they looked at me like I was crazy. My father thinks it's impossible to control your dreams because dreaming is the brain's way of sorting out real life experiences, and that I'm simply fooling myself into believing I'm in control. I wish they were more open-minded - mainly because they are missing out on something amazing.

Me and my parents sorted this out later though. They respect that I believe that this works, but I surely won't strike up a conversation about it with them again.

Haha yeah. My parents probably think it's wierd too. They just don't tell me Smile

But I told my friend about it and he was pretty open minded to it. That was really cool. I've never met another person who lucid dreams. It's a really underground thing because close-minded people think it's wierd, and there's people like us who don't share it with anyone because we're afraid of those close-minded people judging us.

i really cant even fathom what in the fuck is wrong with people who think this is weird... i hope that one day they see the light like i did. by the light i mean when you have a white light dream... tell me thats evil and ill gut you... ;]

as for your parents tell them to do research and not be little first graders and getting their panties in a bunch. Life is more complex than god could ever have imagined, and more enjoyable than any Eden could ever provide. I hope your parents come to their senses, and I hope you have success in your attempts to do whatever your heart desires.

-love, Justus-

I tried to explain the whole concept of Lucid Dreams after watching the movie Inception to my parents, they just could not grasp the concept.

Parents can be silly. Very Happy

Many older people are really set in their ways and refuse to adapt their beliefs over time. There are still some that refuse to believe you can pause live television. Razz

Anyway, if your parents generally love and support you, at least we can be grateful for that. My parents are convicted criminals, so their opinions on lucid dreaming are of little importance to me compared to other things. Laughing
