@ Dream Cream.
I could post a bunch of comparisons, of "its like this, or like that", but the truth is that its like a whole other sensory experience. I can try to relate it to an experience that you might have had, but its near-impossible to comprehend it properly without experiencing it first for yourself.
The dilema is like trying to describe color to a blind person. Obviously its impossible if they have no experience with sight to base any of your descriptions upon. Ultimately you can say that "the color orange is like fire or carrots", or "bright and loud", but who cares what its "like"? The blind person still has no clue what you're talking about.
Nonetheless, I'll give a description so that it might somewhat convey what the experience is like.
Its like... one of the most amazing sensory experiences that you could ever have. It makes you question if heaven is like what you are seeing, or better still. VIVID. You experience not only brand new colors, but you can also experience their texture in a way. Its like using all of your senses to experience one thing, or like an entirely new sense, or...
like a blind person seeing for the first time in their life.
Experiences like this in LD's are quite motivating, for myself anyways, to learn more, and experience more in my lucid dreams. _________________ Don't turn the lights on, cause tonight I wanna see you in the dark. |

I know what you mean. Is there anyway you can kind of describe it? Was it like bluish? Was it a warm or cool colour? I understand if you cannot answer any of these..
I really hope I get that experience, though. That sounds amazing. _________________ And also I lost my clothes. |

In terms of warm vs. cool, I personally experienced warmth. But... you know how for skin tones, for example, they can be classified as warm, neutral or cool. I think that in this example it has to do with the amount of red, yellow, and some other color if I remember correctly. Like someone who has a pink undertone is warm, yellow undertone is cool, or something along those lines. How does this relate at all? The colors and the visual aspect felt warm to me, but I can't say whether the "new" colors were warm or cool in terms of their color make-up, so to say.
Like some of the colors that I saw can't fit into our typical "color schema"- like red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, the variants of those colors, or black (the absence of light), or white (the absence of color). I feel like I lack the sufficient vocabulary to explain these colors because they are unlike anything else I have experienced. Its like a new dimension of color.
I am really trying to figure out how to explain it, but as I'm sure you can tell, I'm having some issues with that. I'm going to have a look through a book that I have on LD and see if I can find someone else's explanation of the phenomena.
Another thought: I wonder what it would be like for someone who always dreams in black and white to have a lucid dream. I wonder if it would change to color, or stay in black and white. _________________ Don't turn the lights on, cause tonight I wanna see you in the dark. |

Why would someone dream in black and white? Wouldn't that be an obvious dream sign. _________________ And also I lost my clothes. |

Plenty of people dream in black and white. About 12% of people dream only in that way. _________________ Don't turn the lights on, cause tonight I wanna see you in the dark. |

ftcollin- it sounds insane. I understand that you cannot describe it. No worries. I wish I can get this same experience. How was it that you found this new "colour"? what did you do before, to get to that?
Yes. A lot of people dream in black and white. I can't imagine how awesome it would be for them to suddenly dream in colour.
Or even more so; do people who are blind dream AT ALL?
What do they see?!
Btw its possible to sort of record what we see in our eyes right now on video which is awesome. Now scientists have got to find those few brain strings to which they can attack to to see what its like when we dream. _________________ But don't worry. I would think that blind people don't see in dreams, but they can use their other senses just like real life. I think this because if you don't see in real life your body can't use real experiences as to what you see to create a dream world.
And if blind people could see in their dreams then they would know what it's like to see. That would be like twisting the knife in their wound _________________ And also I lost my clothes. |

@ Israeleet: When I read your post about scientists potentially being able to look in on our dreams.... THAT'S NUTS!!! What a concept! I can't even begin to comprehend how that would all work... but imagine the complications, and the uses for that kind of technology. That's so creepy.
About scientists recording what our eyes are seeing- does that kind of technology just record the image as is, or is it able to "interpret" it like how our brains do? I've heard that colors, for example, are experienced differently by each person. Take for example the color blue. 2 people are looking at the exact same blue object, but their brains perceive the color differently. Its a result of our conditioning at a young age that for the most part we all call it "blue". I can remember a specific carton of milk that my family would buy, and it was that kind of inbetween blue-green color. I said it was green, my mother says blue.
Scientists watching our dreams, that's so trippy. And its such a private thing, dreaming, because no one else knows what's going on in there until you tell them. Who knows, maybe the CIA already has this technology and is using it on suspects to see if any of their criminal activity appears in their dreams. Hahahhaha, I guess we'll know if this post gets deleted
Apparently blind people do dream, with their other senses more "amplified" you could say.
As for my crazy color lucid dream: before going to bed I did a 61-point relaxation technique, followed by a MILD. This was the first time that I really got into it and really tried. The result- my first LD. In the dream I was in this place that had blue water in the background, trees, tall waving beige grass, and blue-green stones. I go to lie down on a stone, and notice that it is blurry (in the past, some of my dreams are blurry or I can't see quite right). That was what made me realize I was dreaming. When I realized that the colors got turned up, super-saturated, new colors, CRAZY. Did a stabilization technique. I could see through my shut eyelids (bizarre). I was so excited that I couldn't decide what to do while lucid, so I thought I should wake up and write the dream down so I never forget it. I go to sleep on one of the rocks, and "wake up". False awakening, and when I finally woke up for real, I had a bit of a time convincing myself that I was actually awake.
It had a picturesque feel to it, like for me I thought it would be the most beautiful painting ever. In the dream I actually wondered if this is what heaven might be like.
I really hope you experience it too! I'm sure it's only a matter of time _________________ Don't turn the lights on, cause tonight I wanna see you in the dark. |

Oh my, I used to think that people might see colours differently too! Like maybe if red and yellow were switched or something, they would still refer to all the mixtures as the right names but they would see something different.
But that blue-green thing with your mom, Sometimes if I look at that tealish cyan colour and I think of it as green, it looks more minty but if I think of it as blue it looks more blue. I think it's all in the way you're looking at it. Because basically all you and your mom were doing was trying to guess how much yellow was in the blue. _________________ And also I lost my clothes. |
