There is an art, or rather a knack to flying. The knack lies in learning how to throw yourself at the ground and miss.

Very well put, although I think it's more about getting to overcome your expectation of gravity. Razz

Haha...that's actually a quote from hitchhikers guide to the galaxy. Here's a link to his whole write up on flying. I think it applies to lucid dreaming in a way.

I haven't had a lucid dream yet (I'm trying), but I have flown many times in my normal dreams. It's a popular theme for me. Even when I'm not dreaming, I feel this urge to leap into the air and fly away. So I think I can give you some tips.

Most of the time, I fly using wings. It's not that original, but I haven't seen a reply with this idea yet. My wingspan is usually around fourteen feet across and the wings are attatched to my shoulder blades. It's fun to see the different colors my feathers end up being. In order to fly, you should spread your arms out to your sides and run into the wind. Visualize your body getting lighter and gently lifting off the ground, cradled by the wind. Then extend your wings and let them catch the wind like sails. When you feel like you're ready, take a running leap and flap your wings. Keep visualizing yourself flying like a bird. Don't forget to flap. Just keep flapping your wings and rising into the air. It should come naturally to you. Eventually you won't even have to try to stay aloft. Your wings will do all the work for you, and it feels amazing.

A variation of the wings being on your back is to turn your arms into wings instead. Or you can throw yourself off of a cliff and rely on your instincts to fly away in time.

I have a very odd way to fly...it is basically the motions you make to tread water.....I wish it was more graceful!!!

All, I do is fly. I was unaware there were any methods. *Chuckle* My flight is like total control flight. Where ever I "think" to go, I go. This includes hovering and absolute maneuverability. And since it's a dream, I have infinite speed potentials. Flying in lucid dreams depends entirely on your own expectations. Thus if your expectations have no limits, your flying capabilities will be equally boundless. I would have to say that flying is one of my favorite things to do.

I agree flying is my favorite- in order to rise I do the water treading thing.....I may try to change how I do it since it is all just thought....I have hovered before and just coasted along- but not sure I initiated them or not. Now that I am aware of the control more I am going to play with it.....but past two nights have not been lucid Sad Started a journal though.....

For the first time, I was flying forward over some water, but I was as if I was standing vertically. I then made myself dip down so my toes dragged in the water making the water splash. I went to shore, and entered a lake cottage. I did not try to do this though, this was at the very beginning of the dream following a WILD entrance.

I recall flapping my arms like a handicapped bird in a desperate attempt to fly in my first lucid dream. But I had a dream last night in which I was capable of levitating and spawning rocket boosts for my shoes. Anyone who's struggling to fly needs to let go of gravity and just do it. It's all in your imagination. If you focus your thoughts on making something happen, it'll happen.

It depends, when I'm lucid I just fly, when not I have to hold by breath or puff up like a balloon!

New to lucid dreaming, so I haven't been lucid before.
However, in some dreams I tend to fly by jumping, then kicking my legs out, doing sort of an air walk Razz

I still remember a dream where I was in downtown Vancouver and I jumped out of a building. As soon as I thought I was going to splat on the ground I realized I was dreaming. After that I just kept jumping --really high-- off pieces in the environment.

That was sorta like flying...

I remember another one where I was lucid in a white room and I tried to fly, but then the belief in gravity took over, and I hit the floor. Embarassed
