Hi, hope someone can explain what happened to me las night... In the past I have had many lucid dreams, all accidental (I've not tried learning yet, I'm a newb) but last night I had a lucid nightmare.

It started with me normally asleep, then having a night terror that woke me suddenly and shook me up pretty bad as I was killed violently and suddenly.

As I lay with my eyes shut I started to dream but this time was aware of my dream, it started turning pretty horrific, graphically sickening so I decided to open my eyes to stop the dream. However I could still see the dream happening faintly in my mind wile able to look around my bedroom and when I closed my eyes it became extremely vivid again. I tried tossing and turning, repeatedly opening my eyes, even sitting up but the image never went away, only slightly fainter with my eyes open. (This is always the case with my normal lucid dreams too, full body movement, eyes open)

Eventually I decided to let the nightmare play out, and it was pretty barbaric. I'm talking for a example a demonic looking newborn baby with razor teeth, eating the afterbirth of the baby IT had given birth to while floating through a dark gritty neatherealm of a place beside the mental hospital I later became trapped in in this story. And that my friends is only a MILD example of the stuff I saw.

It wasn't just random images, this followed a story like a feature length film.

Sometimes I was able to control the dream and brighten the surroundings, aliens and demons into normal people, but afte a minute or so they would morph back and the terror ensued.

I've searched for hours information on lucid dreams and nightmares but none where able to open eyes and move and still see the dream, then return to the dream. Does anybody please know what the hell happened, as weirdly, at the end of the dream when I'd got everything under control and I decided to get up the visions stopped, the story stopped, and I felt as though I had a weight off my mind, my fears and anxiety gone and I feel much happier than I have done for a while.

But what happened???!!!

Thanks!

You could open your eyes and still see the images, interesting. I think I can relate: back in the year 2000 there was this video game called Halo. It was a pretty scary game at the time beacause I was only young. Throughout the summer I played probably 8 hours a day for 2 to 3 months. After about, say 3 months, whenever I layed in bed to go to sleep I would have constant visions of being in that game. It got so bad, so scary and so vivd the only way I could sleep was when I starred at the bright street lamp outside until my brain fell unconscious. Another experience: I can remember watching 'The Ring' long ago and it had the same effects as what you described (a discustingly scary little girl stalking me and I swear when I was awake at night, and alone in the house, I could hear fast footsteps running up the stairs to my room[this wasn't a dream]). Time will heal you probaly.

Thanks for the link! I also read about it at clubofpassion com. I really like to follow a story like in a movie. But the ending is always the same.
