So I've been thinking of buying a bottle of 3mg melatonin pills to use as a lucidity/dream aid. I've had a little experience with melatonin before, back when I was an avid lucid dreamer (1-3 lucid dreams a week) I had a bottle of melatonin pills but I would almost never use it. My few times actually taking 3mg of melatonin right before bed produced about one night of vivid dreams, but I think I might have been doing something wrong with the dosage/time I took them. Any advice on lucidity supplements? :3

Just the other day I took 4mg of melatonin at 2 am and became lucid at 4am so I guess it all depends on "you". The best way to take them is letting them dissolve underneath your tongue for like 3 minutes. By doing it like that it goes straight into your blood stream. You'll have to swallow the remainder which will be gritty. If you only swallow them with water a lot if it gets broken down by the liver. I have to say that my dreams were very vivd. The only problem I had was stabilizing the locale once I became lucid. Hand rubbing and spinning just did not work.

The problem with recognizing that something bizarre is happening in a dream is that one is invariably disoriented in a dream due to brain chemistry issues. A lot of people talk about this as a kind of psychological process but fundamentally ignore the cause which is a reduced level of nor-adrenaline, dopamine and so forth
For my ten cents, I would say, look down this avenue of discussion for some interesting understanding. I'm working on novel "The Numinous Place" which is live on Kick Starter right now and I will be talking about this approach in there

I've only taken melatonin once and oddly I didn't notice any effects. While I think this is a coincidence in my case, I have known people who have taken it regularly and say that it stops having a good effect after a while. I think it would be useful occasionally to increase your awareness/dream recall in boosts, but I would be careful about using them all the time--best to rely on your own mental powers Very Happy
