Lately I have been conducting an experiment. In this experiment I listen to a 20 minute recording.of a person telling.me that I am dreaming. It is spoken in the first person view point.
It also has a binureal beat in the back ground. When I lie down to bed a make sure my head is pointing north and my feet toward the south. When I do this my dreams are vivd and mostly I become lucid.
Interestingly, when I listen to the recording with my head pointing east or west, my dreams are not as vivid and I don't become.lucid easily.
I discovered the significance of head toward north after reading.a book called journeys out.of the body by Robert Monroe. He made it clear that when ever he traveled out of body. He was more successful when his head pointed north.
For those of you unaware, he also pioneered something called
"Hemi- sync" which is sound waves meant to link up the right and left hemisphere of the brain through tone.frequency.
By no means do I encourage or insist you do this but I'm.going to say it merely.for record purpose. I also have a couple drinks of southern comfort and 7 up. For some reason I dream well after a few. And no I don not drink to dream. I merely.drink and dream as a result
Please experiment with the head facing north technique and let me.know your experiences. My bed normally faces west so I just lie at the foot of the bed on the bed. Good luck |

If I go to sleep a wee bit intoxicated (like 2-3 beers, ending 30 minutes before bed), I usually have good dream recall. I think this is because alcohol inhibits REM sleep in the first part of the night, so you get a REM rebound (more REM sleep) later in the night.
Head pointing north... I don't know. Doesn't seem very logical and sounds like placebo to me. If you'd want to really test it, you'd have to get subjects in a very boring room and make sure they're confused about the direction. More trouble than it's worth, I would guess. But by all means, if you feel that it helps you, go for it! _________________ Quare? Quod vita mea non tua est. |

| I haven't really thought about the direction I face but now that you made me think about it the only place I've became lucid is in my guest bedroom. Oddly enough, it faces north. My main bed faces east. And when I lay down downstairs I am always facing south. I will play around with the facing north. Will let you know if anything interesting happens! |

There was study from the 80's that being in bed with your body length-wise orientated along the north-south axis to the the magnetic north pole (with your head in the northly position) helped sleep and dreams. They didn't report on lucidity. _________________ larry |

I am still experimenting with this and right now I'm pretty firm in my belief in its accuracy for producing more vivd memorable dreams. I have tried tricking my mind into believing that I was pointing north before bed but had no lucidity.
To test it further I told my friend to move my bed to face north or leave it facing east, take me into the room. Spin me around and such to disoriented so that I wouldn't know if he had or hadn't and when it faced noryh my dreams were amazing. |

my bed faces north west so if i sleep at a angle i will face north. i also find if i sleep at a angle i have lucid or near lucid dreams. _________________ my current goal: fly with wings, teleport, master dream fighting skills, epic battle vs my evil side. |

Have not been able to yet find the article previously mentioned. Perhaps it was an unpublished poster? Will keep trying. Some web pages an Electromagnetic pollution seem to allude to it.
Feng Shui and some types of yoga also make statements about north-south axis sleeping position. However, some of them seem to recommend the head in the opposite direction _________________ larry |

Interesting. Something to experiment with.
At first it sounds like total hogwash, but actually it's plausible if you think about it. The electrical activity in our brain does create a magnetic field and who knows what the effects are of its alignment with our planet's EM field. There's plenty of research out there that magnetic fields can affect our thinking.
It has also been shown that solar flares affect our mood, so maybe solar activity could have some correlation with lucid dreaming success. This would be very interesting to research and considering we could have lots of dream journal statistics at hand right here, maybe we could give it a shot. |
