Hi, my name is Tim Post and I will be your lucid dream instructor during this online learning program. First of all, welcome to Lucidipedia's learning section. Nice of you to visit us. Whether you already have some experience with lucid dreaming or not, doesn't really matter here. We will start from the very beginning, covering all the basics and move up to the more advanced techniques along the way.
I can see you haven't used Lucidipedia's DreamJournal yet to record dreams. Make sure you do have your own Lucidipedia account before we continue. Let's get started right away.
If you would like to continue learning on your iPod at night or during an upcoming holiday trip, feel free to download Lucidipedia's audiobook of this complete learning section. Please allow me to introduce myself. I'm 24 years old and am studying Educational Science & Technology at the University of Twente in The Netherlands. About seven years ago I created my first lucid dream website (in Dutch) and eventually founded the Lucidipedia project to make lucid dreaming more accessible to the world. Since then, I do talks and workshops on lucid dreaming around other universities in The Netherlands and have produced 10 high-quality YouTube movies for free, aimed to "transfer" these talks to other interested dreamers abroad. Enjoy them along this program.
This learning section covers the experiences and skills that I have logged and archived in these past seven years. Since then, I have come a long way and am eager to share my skills with you. Obviously, my advances in lucid dreaming could not be possible without me benefiting from the invaluable lucid dream research that is done by the Lucidity Institute. Let me introduce you to this useful research along the way.
Learning lucid dreaming consists of three basic lessons: (1) Recall dreams, (2) Discover dreamsigns and (3) Recognize dreams. You can see these lessons on top in the submenu, feel free to access them whenever you want. Be sure to stick to the structure of this learning section however if you are a novice lucid dreamer and don't have much lucid dream experience yet. To become an expert lucid dreamer, you'll need a clean fresh start and a reliable basis of knowledge, skills and other factors to rely on. It is also recommended for more experienced lucid dreamers who still have trouble inducing lucidity, to start from the very beginning and stick to the structure: Do not skip any learning content if you feel you haven't mastered it completely. Only move on if you are satisfied with the results you are making. In short, keep practicing, practicing and practicing.
My knowledge and skills in lucid dreaming is based on very interesting literature. Let me provide you an overview of my favorite (and most useful!) lucid dream literature:
As you can see on Lucidipedia's dynamic Lucidity Radar picture below, the tiny red dots represent lucid dreamers that are currently using Lucidipedia to learn lucid dreaming. Lucid dreaming has become a popular global phenomenon. That is why I feel the need for proper learning material must be met and is therefore freely available here at Lucidipedia.
Before you start learning lucid dreaming, take a look at some of the prerequisites of the program. How much time, desire and willpower are you willing to invest to learn lucid dreaming? Your answers on these important questions influence the effectivity of the program itself, and consequently your success in lucid dreaming. So be sure to consciously revalue your entry level for the world of lucid dreaming if you would really like to become that expert lucid dreamer you want to become in the near future.
Learning lucid dreaming takes about an average of four weeks practicing. At that time most people have experienced their first lucid dream. Although this first lucid dream is experienced by many as an unforgettable experience, be sure to realize that this is not a lucid dream that is in any way comparable to the advanced lucid dreams in those following months; the real ones. So to be short, it personally took me some additional time to reach the level where I was sufficiently skilled enough to have super lucid dreams. It took me 7 days to get my first lucid dream (by means of raw desire), and like 6 months to go beyond that. The official methods and techniques I discovered later on, really empowered my lucidity in a way that is incomparable with my first lucid dream. Although I have had hundreds of lucid dreams, all of them still have that sense of 'wonder' and 'excitement' like the very first one. But in terms of lucidity lengths, sensory experience and lucid dream adventures, my future lucid dreams really brought my view on lucid dreaming to the next level. If you are willing to reach the same level, be ready to train hard.
Just briefly before we start, don't expect any special-fancy-self-created techniques about lucid dreaming here. All the so-called "THIS WILL WORK" and "100% guaranteed" tricks you'll find while browsing the internet are mostly invented by users who do not properly understand the original and official techniques the Lucidity Institute has designed. Or lack the willpower to fully employ them, of course. Trust me, they work. You only need some additional support to fully integrate them into your own training, just as I needed this support at that time. So my aim for my learning program here at Lucidipedia sounds as follows: let's stick to the original scientifically researched methods and techniques and let me present you new ways to integrate and practice them in your everyday life.
You can use the lesson dependent side-menu to quickly access the 'learn more' items that are also stated at the end of each paragraph, as you might have noticed already. Although the main page of each segment of the program presents a minimalistic summary of these items, feel free to access this supplemental 'learn more' information if you feel you need it. For more in-depth information, visit the Library. When you are ready, officially start you training by joining me at the introduction section.
